Magento 1.9 Image file was not found

Introduction

After upgrading to Magento 1.9.3.10, I encountered an issue where navigating to a category page sometimes displayed the error message “Image file was not found”. This error occurs when some products do not have an image set and the default placeholder image is missing.

Understanding the Issue

The error arises because Magento tries to display a placeholder image for products without a set image, but if the placeholder image is missing, it results in the “Image file was not found” message.

Solution: Set New Placeholder Images

To resolve this issue, you need to set new placeholder images for products. Follow these steps:

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Access Product Image Placeholders

Go to System > Configuration > Catalog > Product Image Placeholders in the Magento admin panel.

2. Upload Placeholder Images

In the “Product Image Placeholders” section, upload new placeholder images for each image type (Base, Small, Thumbnail, and Swatch).

Note: Ensure that each image type has a placeholder set to avoid any missing image errors.

Conclusion

By setting new placeholder images, you can prevent the “Image file was not found” error and ensure that all products, even those without specific images, display correctly on your category pages.
